The founders of our school are Jean Marie Vianney Bizimana (1962-2009) and Gédéon Mbaririmbanyi. Jean Marie Vianney Bizimana passed away when the school was still at its embryonic stage. However, as the promotion of education should be everyone’s concern, Jeanne Médiatrice Nkurunziza who had the chance to closely work with late Jean Marie Vianney Bizimana joined to support Gédéon Mbaririmbanyi in the concretization of the vision.
The founders’ vision for Burundi English School is that there would not be any social, economic, ethnic or cultural barriers hindering students from accessing quality education. They aim to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds, who do not have the economic means, can get their education from Burundi English School in order to be empowered to build a bright future for themselves and their families.
Following the founder’s vision, BES has provided 12 bursaries since the 2012- 2013 school year. The BES Board of Directors, the Tanbur African Aid Society of Canada (TAAS), and donors from Canada and the United States of America support our school bursary scheme. These bursaries allow the school to help beneficiaries build their future based on our Founders’ direction. BES believes that by providing a strong education that is open for all and based on solid precepts, it will contribute to the growth and development of not only Burundi but also the whole world.
“Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world.” Nelson Mandela
